Jan David Dewitt / Lead Pastor
Jan (“JD”) is originally from Walla Walla, Washington. In 1976, Jan gave his life to Jesus Christ at the Billy Graham Crusade in Seattle down on the 45 yard line at the Kingdome (Go Seahawks!!). After 18 years serving in other Covenant churches, he was called to serve as revitalization pastor at New Hope Covenant Church in June, 2005.
Jan completed his Bachelor’s degree in History at Western Washington University, Bellingham, Washington. He earned his Master of Divinity at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, after studies at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. He completed his Master of Social Work degree from Western Michigan University in 2005, focusing on Family System’s Theory and Group Development.
More importantly, Jan loves his Church and strives to communicate God’s Love in conversational, fresh messages from God’s
Word that invite faith in Jesus Christ.
Every January in Michigan, Jan dreams of planting a Covenant Church on Waikiki beach with Lori, his wife of 25 years. Jan and Lori have two grown children, Connor and Emileigh. Jan enjoys Starbuck’s coffee, backpacking with pastor-friends in the Mountains, gardening, and throwing balls for his rescue cat, Clint.

Shawn McMeekan / Director of Music and SmallGroups
Shawn McMeekan, a native of Kalamazoo, was called to ministry as a student in high school where he participated in several ministries and missions with his local church youth group at Galesburg United Methodist Church. Enjoying the arts, he has performed and directed many musicals and dramas since then. Shawn was attending New Hope Church when the church decided to hire him as Director of Music and Worship.
Over the years Shawn has served as our Director of Music and Worship, he has played a vital role in our weekly worship, directing our worship team, worship planning team, drama team, and choir. Each week, he and his team usher us into the house of God to honor Him with praise and worship. They tirelessly bear witness to His presence in this place week after week, and we agree, “God is here and is worthy of praise!”
Shawn also serves as our Director of Small Groups and Ministries. In this capacity, he provides leadership for the church’s many small group and ministry leaders. Together, they plan the activities we celebrate as a church family. Together, they work to fulfill the church’s ministry goal each year.
In addition to serving God here at New Hope Church, Shawn also serves God full-time at Comstock Green Meadow Elementary as the school’s K-4 Instructional Coach. As the school’s coach, he is responsible for coaching the school’s teachers on instructional practices, administering district and state assessments, and overseeing the school’s reading and math interventions.
Busy as Shawn is, he still makes time for his family which includes his son Collin, who is attending Grace Bible College to become a missionary, and his daughter Kiah Lynn, who is attending KVCC and eventually WMU to earn a degree in fashion merchandising.
